Our guest this week was Karen Sheffield who joined NTC Now from California and is the founder of Pachamama Ventures, a name which means mother earth in quechua, the ancient language of the Incas, and also a name that resonated with her identity as a Peruvian woman.

Karen discussed her journey into angel investing and the importance of building relationships with founders. She also shared her outlook as an investor and her first nature tech investment in Gentian.
Gentian is a remote sensing software company that leverages satellite imagery data and machine learning to create real-time biodiversity assessments.
Karen emphasized the importance of working with experienced founders in de-risking investments and building long-term relationships with them. She also shared valuable advice for member organizations on the call and is presently seeking mission aligned partners and investors.

NTx Nature Fintech Sectormap Launched!
The nature fintech sector map was shared with members who will have the opportunity to participate and be featured further.
The sector intelligence unit released the first version of the nature fintech sector map to members. This is the beginning of a larger work stream that will include a series of online facilitations and a report. The sector map is designed to provoke feedback and interest from many different actors and to help bring awareness to new actors in the space and how nature tech is evolving and maturing. It has has the benefit of educating the demand side, helping to present a menu of solutions, and also helping companies to understand their own identity as a nature tech company and differentiate further from climate tech.

The Nature Fintech report currently underway that will include a discussions about this nascent sector, mapping and highlighting market players, and case studies from our members.
